Dancing on Ice is an ITV reality based show which sits alongside programmes such as ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and has become a firm favourite among viewers with a loyal Sunday night following of up to thirteen million. Now in its sixth series, the show brings together thirteen celebrities who are paired with professional skaters and, each week, they perform a well rehearsed ice-dance routine in front of a panel of judges. The judges vote as they see fit on a scale of 0-0 to 6.0, just like in the Olympics, and these scores are then totted up to create a leaderboard which the voting viewers can alter on a 50-50 basis in accordance with their voting preferences.
Dancing On Line Betting
The show attracts a large volume of online betting, and reality TV Betting fans are very keen to pit their wits against the bookies on who will be eliminated each week as well as speculating on the ultimate winner. Online betting sites offer a range of bets on the show and, in their keenness to encourage you to sign up with them will usually have on offer a range of generous free bets. You also gain access to all the gossip and inside news on contestants to help you make up your mind.
The competition becomes highly competitive and, as with all these type of shows, personality gets mixed up with developing skills and sometimes the unexpected can happen. After all the scores and votes have been collated each week, the bottom two names on the leaderboard engage in the ‘Skate Off’ in an effort to persuade the judges to keep them on the show. The loser of this trial is then eliminated from the series - and be careful, it’s not always the worst skater.
DANCING WITH THE CELEBRITIES
The celebrities are trained over the span of the show by legendary Olympic Ice Dancing champions, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. Famous for their gold medal winning dance to Ravel’s Bolero, the couple also perform a routine of their own at the start of each show. It’s also fair to say that the professional skaters, paired with the celebrities, are instrumental in the quality of performance produced each week. Needless to say, the judges are either celebrities, or becoming them, as opportunity arises for them to be rude and/or outrageous when delivering their opinions. Karen Barber, Robin Cousins, Jason Gardiner, Nicky Slater and Ruthie Henshall make up the panel.
The main show is presented by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby who also present the ‘Skate Off’ and the result later in the evening. As always with these shows, it’s worth getting used to the whims of the Great British Public whose voting inclinations determine success or failure. It’s not just down to skating ability with sexiness, pluck, muscley thighs and boyish charm all playing their part. Not only that, as happened with John Sargeant in the last series of Strictly Come Dancing, the public can take to a no-hoper and continue to vote for them through thick and thin – much to the annoyance of the judges.
